Commission lifecycle
Every commission moves from Pending to Payable to Paid, unless something stops it.
A commission is created as Pending the moment Stripe reports a referred sale. It becomes Payable when its hold is over, and Paid when you mark it paid. Refunds, chargebacks, self-referral flags and your own decisions can stop it on the way.
Looks like a self-referral. Never payable until you press Dismiss flag.
An open chargeback holds it. A Payable commission goes back to Pending.
Full refund, lost chargeback, confirmed self-referral, or voided by you. Final.
Statuses
Transitions
A partial refund does not change the status. It lowers the amount in proportion. See Refunds, disputes and cancellations.
The holding period
The hold is the program's Hold before paying setting, 30 days by default. A commission's payable date is fixed when it is recorded: the moment Stripe reports the sale, plus the hold. Changing the program later does not move it.
- During the hold, a refund still cancels or lowers the commission.
- After you mark it paid, nothing changes it, and nothing is clawed back from the affiliate.
- A flagged or disputed commission never becomes payable, whatever its date.
Details in the commissions list
The Detail column on your Commissions page explains each row:
What affiliates see
Affiliates see the same statuses in their portal, except Flagged: a flagged commission shows to them as Pending. Their details are worded for them, and a reason you typed when voiding is never shown. See The affiliate portal.
Void a commission
Void a commission you have decided not to pay, for example a sale you know was a test.
Open Commissions and click the commission
The option shows on Pending commissions.
Under Void this commission, type a Reason
Up to 200 characters. Only you see it.
Press Void
The commission becomes Voided and the affiliate sees Removed by the merchant. This cannot be undone.
A paid commission cannot be voided.
